Built To Expand
Submission for the GMTK Game Jam 2024
Gameplay:
The goal of the game is to fit all the the tiles into the grid, this concept is nothing new (first similar game that comes to mind is the Talos Principle with its sigil puzzles). The catch here, however, is that the puzzle pieces scale / expand, which hopefully results in more interesting puzzles.
Game design notes:
There's definitely a lot of room for creativity with creating these puzzles, I only spent around 4 hrs making them, by brute force trying different combinations until something worked (I'm not very good at making puzzles, sorry). Perhaps maybe with some solver or script that guarantees a solvable puzzle it might be easier to streamline the process.
Also while writing this, what came to mind is the idea to have shrinking pieces as well, this could expand the room for creativity a lot more (imagine you want to place a shrinking piece in some place, but can't place it early, otherwise it moves away from where you want it).
GMTK Jam experience notes:
Built the game structure in the first two days and all that was left, was to create the actual levels in the second half, but was very lazy with it, so level quality could've been tremendously better :p
Overall I'm happy with how this turned out, I started this jam with polish first and gameplay later, which is a bit dumb, but it was a fun experiment to do it this way :)

Love the game. It's very polished, and the gameplay is fun. Maybe a hint system would be great for when you're stuck, but I guess that's a bit much for a game jam
